Halloween

Just thought I'd share a picture of myself and my fantastic poodle skirt for Halloween. It took me much longer than I thought it would to make - that stupid little poodle on the skirt took me FOREVER to attach. But I think it turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself. I was talking about a my costume with a couple of auditors from work and neither of them had ever heard of a poodle skirt before!! I thought everyone at least knew what they were but apparently they didn't. One of them actually thought I was going to dress up as a poodle wearing a skirt!!

I went to a party at an old roommates' house and there were some pretty amazing costumes! Enjoy!!

And #40....

Some friends and I rented a cabin up near Jackson last weekend. We had a great time - played in Jackson and the Tetons one day. We hiked around Jenny Lake, found Hidden Falls, and saw a huge pack of elk on our way out of the park. (Is it a pack of elk? Or a herd? Or a gaggle? I really have no idea.) That night, we ate delicious homemade pizza, played games, watched a movie, and sat in the private hot tub at the cabin.

The next morning, after a delicious breakfast of french toast, bacon, and sausage, we drove to Yellowstone. I'd never been there before. It was GORGEOUS! I definitely need to go back. I loved all the pine trees covered in snow and I couldn't believe how big the lakes were!! Yellowstone was amazing. My favorite part was crossing off item #40 from my bucket list. We drove to Old Faithful and waited about an hour for it to erupt. And erupt, it did. When that water comes shooting out of the crater, it really comes out. I couldn't believe it!

So, 40 down, only 61 to go......

#39

Well, I just crossed off #39 this weekend. I've always thought it would be fun to ride in a hot air balloon. It's definitely not something that everyone has the chance to do so I decided it should probably be on my list. My friend Emily and I have been talking about going for the past 3 falls. This year, we decided we needed to go for it. We tried last weekend but it was too windy so the hot air balloon couldn't fly. I was so disappointed!!!!!!

Luckily, we could reschedule and this last weekend, the weather was perfect. We woke up at 6:00 in the morning, had some yummy apple spice muffins (homemade by my roommate Emily), and headed up to Park City. Our pilot's name was Logan and he was a lot of fun. The hot air balloon ride was great! We went up a mile in the air!!! We were up for 75 minutes and we almost got arrested for trespassing!!

(We had to sign a waiver before we went up stating that we would not hold the company liable for any bail monies if we got arrested. I thought it was mostly a joke but as we landed and climbed out of the basket, a policy car drove up to talk to us. Turned out another balloon had flown too close to a house and the owners called to complain.) It was super fun. We could see for miles. Logan pointed out a small mountain range to the north of us that he claimed were the Grand Tetons. It seemed a little bit farfetched for me to believe but if it's true, that's amazing! Everyone should do it!

Life Couldn't Be Better

The Brad Paisley concert
I went with some friends to hear Brad Paisley at USANA a couple weeks ago. I love summertime and outdoor concerts. It was great! We did have a little bit of rain for a minute but once we were good and soaked, it stopped. :) He was the first country concert I've ever been to and it was fun to go see him again. He gives a great concert. If you ever get the chance, you should definitely check him out!

Golfing
I've been golfing quite a bit this summer with a couple of friends from my ward. We went every other friday or so. This fall, we decided to take a golf class to help us with our skills. It's been awesome! I feel like I at least know what I'm supposed to do. (I might not do it every time but I do try.) I went with a friend this weekend who hasn't seen me golf since before the class started. He said he can definitely see an improvement! Problem is, summer's over now and it's cold, so I'm afraid I'm going to forget everything I learned before next summer!

Guitar Lessons
I also started guitar lessons a couple months ago. I wish I could say I'm an expert (I'm not quite there yet) but I think I've definitely improved. I'm working on a couple of fun songs right now - Collin Raye's Love Me, Jack Johnson's Banana Pancakes, and Toby Keith's Stupid Boy. I've still got a long way to go before I'd consider myself a professional but I'm trying. I've been playing on my mom's old classical guitar until yesterday when I bought myself my very own acoustic guitar. It's really pretty (Don't you agree?) and I'm super excited about it! I hope that the new guitar will make me want to practice even more. Give me a couple more months with lessons and maybe I'll have my very own concert. :) (Just kidding - I'm a long way off from that!)

My addiction
My co-worker is studying to become a licensed gemologist (I have no idea what you do with a gemology license so don't ask) and she likes to make a lot of jewelry. Lucky for me, I like to wear it. My dad made me this really great rack for all of my stuff a couple Christmases ago and I'm pretty much out of room thanks to her. She's made some really great things and I'm always willing to try them out for her. She's the nicest lady and won't even let me pay her for them. I know you're all jealous.

Well, there's my life in a nutshell. I've got some exciting things planned for October (including a hot air balloon ride and a murder mystery dinner - complete with costumes!!) so come back soon!

August 2009

August has been quite a month. My friend Brooke and I decided to try for another Dutch Oven Cookoff. It was great! We made Pizza Rolls, Smoky Citrus Pork Tenderloin, and Turtle Cake. We took 7th place (out of 7 teams) but we had a great time. We got a bunch of really great prizes and met some really fun people. If you're ever in Salt Lake for the county fair, you should definitely stop by. Everyone got to try all the food the contestants had made. We were busy cooking so we didn't get to try a lot but the stuff we did try was delicious!

I'm a bit of an amusement park junkie. Some friends and I got season passes to Lagoon again this summer and we've had a great time. I've spent a lot of time at Lagoona Beach (you think I'd be tanner with all the time I've spent in the sun). I don't think I'll ever get tired of riding Wicked, the Spider, Jet Star 2, or the Screamer (one of the most underappreciated rides at Lagoon). We went for my friend Wendy's birthday a couple weeks ago and we stopped at Pace's Dairy Ann for Rainbows afterwards. Mmmm! I'll never get tired of the peach ones!!

One of my favorite places to visit is Trial Lake in the Uintahs. It's on the way to Mirror Lake about 45 minutes past Kamas. My family's been going there almost every year since I was about 10. They've missed the past couple years but I've taken some friends up and introduced them to the amazing campground, fun hikes, and beautiful lake. My family decided that it had been too long since they'd been there so we booked our favorite campsites (months in advance) and headed up for the weekend. We had great food, some pretty good fishing, and tons of rain. It always rains in the Uintahs but this was borderline ridiculous. It rained from about 9:00 on Thursday night and then it started raining about 7:30 on Friday.

I slept in my car because I wasn't about to deal with the rain in the leaky tent. My poor family was soaked. Saturday morning, we got up early, packed up camp, and headed home. I was back at my house unloading the car by 10 a.m.  It was still a lot of fun. We went hiking, ate WAY too many s'mores, and played some great games. A couple of cousins, aunts, and uncles came up to join us and we all had a great time. I wish I could say I beat them all during our game of 5 Crowns but that would be a complete lie. I'm pretty sure I lost by almost 100 points. :( What a sad day.

This month I've also been to a couple of Bees' games (they lost), seen 2 fireworks shows (another secret addiction of mine), started guitar lessons, taken up tennis, and been golfing more times than I have the rest of my life combined. I've been repainting the baseboards in my house, reading a couple of great books, and sleeping a lot less than I should be. Overall, it's been great!!
